Judy Villaseñor has been teaching in Chicago, Illinois for 13 years. She attended Northeastern Illinois University where she obtained a B.A. in Early Childhood Education with a minor in Spanish. During this time, she had the opportunity to visit Spain and take a summer course at La Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and fully immerse in the culture by living with a wonderful Spanish family. She obtained an M. Ed. in Instructional Leadership at The University of Illinois in Chicago in 2017. She has taught pre-k, kindergarten, 2nd (5 years) and 3rd grade (5 years). This year, in her role of Dual Language Coordinator at her school, she is working with teachers and administrators to begin to implement a Dual Language One-Way program that would replace the Transitional Bilingual Education model that has been in place for 10 years.
When Judy was studying for her undergrad, she knew that she wanted to work in the same community she grew up in and serve students and their families that reflected her upbringing: latinos y bilingüe. Es un HONOR for her to work closely with families and for them to trust and allow her to be a partner in the education of their children. She is the mamá of a sweet boy whom she and her husband are trying to raise bilingual because they understand the PODER de ser bilingüe.
She enjoys reading, running, and trying new recipes for her family. One of her personal accomplishments was running the Chicago Marathon for 2 consecutive years and hopes to run it once more in the near future.
