Biography
Brenda Calvillo is a second grade Dual Language teacher at Parkwood
Elementary School. As a child it was difficult for her to relate to the
other students and teachers, therefore, it was never her dream to be a
teacher. The first day on the job as a Bilingual Teacher Assistant was the
moment she understood her purpose. Brenda graduated from Illinois State
University’s Transitioning Paraprofessionals into Teachers program with a
major in Elementary Education-Bilingual Bicultural sequence with
endorsements in Bilingual, English as a Second Language, and Language Arts
(Middle School). She is currently taking courses through Northern Illinois
University on Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Social
Justice. Brenda presented alongside her colleagues Mrs. Ramirez and Mrs.
Sheeks on Professional Learning Communities at the 2019 Principal’s Meeting
as well as the Dual Language Committee Meeting. Brenda considers herself a
forever learner. Most of all, she’s passionate about being a guide for her
kids and is grateful to be able to witness their learning journey as well
as their social-emotional growth.
