Biography
Aurydemis Zemla is an elementary school teacher with the New York City Department of Education. She was born in the Dominican Republic and entered the U.S. education system as a multilingual learner at 9 years of age. Having experienced the absence of curriculum that reflected her experiences, perspective, and her background knowledge, Mrs. Zemla is passionate about culturally-relevant learning. She mentors new dual language teachers in how to adapt the current curriculum to the needs/culture/ and unique perspective of multilingual learners, and serves Kindergarten and 1st grade students, as a dual language teacher in East Harlem. In her effort to support families both in Latin America and the U.S., Mrs. Zemla will be launching a website to support bilingual educators and families in the Fall of 2021.
