Aurydemis Zemla

Biography

Aurydemis Zemla is an elementary school teacher with the New York City Department of Education. She was born in the Dominican Republic and entered the U.S. education system as a multilingual learner at 9 years of age. Having experienced the absence of curriculum that reflected her experiences, perspective, and her background knowledge, Mrs. Zemla is passionate about culturally-relevant learning. She mentors new dual language teachers in how to adapt the current curriculum to the needs/culture/ and unique perspective of multilingual learners, and serves Kindergarten and 1st grade students, as a dual language teacher in East Harlem. In her effort to support families both in Latin America and the U.S., Mrs. Zemla will be launching a website to support bilingual educators and families in the Fall of 2021.
